The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
